Beck Engineering (1992) Ltd. is a civil structural engineering firm based in
Calgary, Alberta that started operations in 1976. They offer engineering and drafting
services for Oil & Gas industrial facilities throughout the world and particularly in
Western Canada.
Challenge: to build interior space, including a mezzanine level, while the base building structure was still being completed.
By purchasing two bays of a brand new building in northeast Calgary, Beck Engineering is able to enjoy the benefits of ownership. The challenge of the project was to create a functional office environment from two bays of raw space complete with multiple washrooms, offices, open areas, meeting spaces, a mezzanine level, stairs and appropriate fire exits.
Extensive review and use of the Alberta Building Code on this project was necessary to ensure compliance. Their colour and finishes were selected using their existing reception desk as a starting point and reflects the sophisticated, contemporary energy of this growing, vibrant group. The new kitchen doubles as a meeting space, layout area and multi-purpose room; the boardroom doubles as a billiards area.
Exterior windows that were added during base building construction allow natural daylight to filter through the space. By focusing our design features on a couple of areas, the cost of the build out remained quite modest. Beck Engineering remains one of our best and most supportive clients!
